The government of India is very focused on our well-being and in this regard, they keep initiating schemes to improve the health infrastructure of our country. ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) is one of those initiatives by ABDM (Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission) which act as a health identity number of an Indian citizen. Here we will know what an ABHA Health Card is along with its benefits & process.

What is ABHA?

As stated above ABHA acts as a health identity number using which a person can access and share their medical records seamlessly. ABHA card contains a 14-digit number which we formally call ABHA number. This ABHA number is unique for every user. Further, you can create multiple ABHA addresses for your ABHA number, but we recommend having only one ABHA address so that you can manage it efficiently.

All the health records of a person are linked under their ABHA and they can extract them the moment they want. Moreover, having an ABHA card the person is not required to carry their health records physically.  All your medical records such as prescriptions, diagnostic reports, lab reports, etc are consolidated under ABHA. Access them anytime, anywhere.

Let’s take an example: Suppose you are out of the city and your grandparent needs immediate doctor’s attention. They somehow manage to get the doctor but nobody is aware of their health history in the family except you. Now by being at a remote location, using their ABHA ID, you can share all the medical reports efficiently. This is the power of ABHA and each Indian citizen should have an ABHA card.

Benefits of ABHA Card

Many people don’t take the ABHA card seriously because they don’t find it useful. At the same time, we would say, it is a mistake. Below, we will mention the benefits of the ABHA card and why you should have it.

So guys, download aarogyaone app and get OPD registration within few clicks only.

Digital Health Record: With ABHA, one can have all medical records in digital format. Hence it eliminates carrying physical files all the time. Also, if you have missed or forgotten any file, no need to worry because that record is available in your ABHA.

Consent-Based Sharing: The government ensures users’ privacy on priority and hence your consent will always be asked whenever your document is requested for sharing. If you allow/permit only then the respective healthcare provider can access your record.

Inter-Communication With ABDM-Integrated Facilities: Using ABHA, you will be able to get connected with the healthcare providers or doctors of various hospitals. You can consult them and take the treatment process further.

Access Anytime Anywhere: You can access ABHA whenever you want. The only required thing is a stable internet connection. All your medical documents are just a click away with ABHA.

Highly Secured: So many users think their information will be leaked or shared but it is totally a myth. Government takes care of user’s data safety with utmost care. Your records are 100% secure and no one can access them without your permission.

In this blog, you will get to know What is ABDM (Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission) & Its Components. The government is aggressively emphasizing digital empowerment where they are encouraging people to use digital resources to get health benefits. In this series, they have taken the initiative and formed ABDM which is Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Many programs are run under this mission with the ultimate aim of improving healthcare facilities.

We have seen many individuals and families who have no knowledge about these programs as a result of which they lose the benefits. Hence to make people aware we have started a series of blogs where we will keep educating you regarding ABDM, Government Initiatives, Health Benefits, and many more such relevant topics.

What is ABDM (Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission) & Its Components

What is ABDM?

So many of us don’t know What is ABDM (Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission) & Its Components. Let’s begin with the introduction of ABDM. The government has launched the program Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission to empower the healthcare system digitally and build a digital health ecosystem across India. The aim behind the launch of ABDM is to facilitate common health data standards and register healthcare professionals & facilities.

As a result of ABDM, all the participating digital health systems can share health records with healthcare professionals seamlessly. Hence, we say, ABDM acts as a bridge and connects various stakeholders in the healthcare domain.

Components of ABDM

  • ABHA Number
  • ABHA Mobile App(PHR)
  • Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR)
  • Health Facility Registry (HFR)

Vision behind Ecosystem

So many of us are still thinking, about what is the need for a healthy ecosystem or why the is Government emphasizing a healthy ecosystem.

We are quite aware of our population which is around 140 crores and managing such a massive audience for their health is obviously challenging. Moreover, we have more than 50 lakh professionals with approximately 12 lakh healthcare facilities.

Most of them are already involved with some other digital health system and migrating all of them on any single platform is nearly impossible. Also, all of them have different kinds of requirements. Hence to their communication easy, quick, and secure, the health ecosystem is made where they can interact effortlessly.

Key Responsibilities of NHA under ABDM

NHA (National Health Authority) is associated with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) which is primarily responsible for the implementation of ABDM. Their objective is to develop an interoperable and secure digital platform where healthcare professionals can interact seamlessly. In order to implement the same, they need to develop building blocks or internal modules so that external digital health systems can integrate with them.

Hence NHA has to act as a bridge so that all the healthcare facilities and healthcare professionals could be part of this healthcare ecosystem.

ABDM & AB PM-JAY

Again, people are very confused about the relation of these two terms ABDM & AB PM-JAY (Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana). Read the section carefully and take advantage if it is needed.

The government is offering health insurance of up to INR 5 Lakh per family through AB PM-JAY (Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana). Same as ABDM, NHA is responsible for the implementation of AB PM-JAY.

Furthermore, in order to make efficient and transparent communication, AB PM-JAY is using the ABDM platform. In simple words we can, AB PM-JAY is an integration with ABDM same as any other digital health system. Programs that are integrated like AB PM-JAY are NIKSHAY (antiTB programme), CoWIN (COVID vaccination portal), hospitals, etc.

Final Words

We hope the concept of ABDM and its components is clear now. Also now you have the idea about the benefits you can get through ABDM. In our coming blog, we will discuss some other building blocks of the healthcare ecosystem. Hence stay tuned and keep browsing the page.
